In the center the teeth is the living tissue consisting of nerves and blood vessels. When this becomes infected, the tooth will require root canal therapy in order to save it. An infected dental pulp (abscess) can become a serious health condition if allowed to spread. It can lead to pain on biting, sensitivity to hot and cold, tooth discoloration, swollen or tender gums, or a persistent pimple on the gums.
